Woohoo!

// December 3rd, 2003 // No Comments » // Geeky Stuff

Whey-hey! Today I got a new case and 375W PSU from Mr. PC Computers in Stockton-on-Tees. This was all I needed to get the server up and running and now I have it!

Be sure to check up on the server page for the results later!

Two… yes, count ’em, TWO webcams!

Today is a great day for webcam sites everywhere! For I have a 2nd webcam attached to this here computer. Now you can see live feed from my zxoncam website from two different angles! I got the cam off a friend who I was sorting a couple of computers for. Hell, he had no use for it.

Also, today I managed to piece together all the parts for the upcoming server. Everything’s in place… except for one little flaw… the 300W PSU is shite! I think it’s just kapoot, cos almost all of the time it never wants to draw in power from the mains 😐

Times they are a-changing

Aged 20 –> Aged 21
Dreamweaver MX –> Dreamweaver MX 2004
Flash MX –> Flash MX Professional 2004
Paint Shop Pro v7.04 –> Paint Shop Pro v8.0
WebcamXP Pro v1.04.700 –> WebcamXP Pro v1.06.962

Yup, things are upgrading a bit over the past couple of weeks. It’s not just my software, but the hardware as well. I’ve installed a new 550W gold-plated twin-fan power supply to my pooter, which has given me the opportunity to finally put in that PCI IDE card… sooo I’ve not got a third CD-ROM in my pooter now. I also recently bought a card reader of my own so that I can’t get in trouble if the folks’ reader goes missing. Then there’s the 128Mb dongle I got for my birthday as well.

Now for the end of the geeky stuff today… signing out

It’s nearly here

Damn this has been a busy week! I’ve had work, uni, and band practice already. Tomorrow its my birthday, Thursday I’ve got a gig at Liberty’s In Town, and on Friday I’m off to London for the weekend! Ooer! Three hours until my 21st birthday! I dunno what I’m gonna do to pass the time, I really don’t. Maybe I’ll play a little Pro Evolution Soccer or something, I’m a couple of games away from finishing the season (again!)…

Countdown to the birthday

That’s right folks! It’s my 21st on Wednesday! God knows how much stuff I may (or may not) get but nevertheless I’m having a party (Gatecrashers: I’ll tell you where it is after I’ve had it 😛 ). There’s only two days left. Anyways, I’ve got work to go to so I’ll report more later.

Processor taking the strain

// August 14th, 2003 // No Comments » // Geeky Stuff

Over the past week or so, us brits have been victim of one of the hottest heat waves the country’s ever known (Reaching 101°F on Sunday!). It’s been hot as a desert in my bedroom cos I get the afternoon sun, and my processor’s having a little trouble. Recent checks have shown that it’s reaching 37-8°C while the temperature inside the case remains at 28°C. Maybe I should take the side off my pooter and point the big fan at it, that should cool it down a little…

PS2 Networked and Online

// August 2nd, 2003 // No Comments » // Geeky Stuff, General

That’s right folks, I got the Network Adapter for my PS2 today and I’m quite chuffed with it. Looks pretty ugly though, sticking out the back like that. Just wait ’til I get my HDD for it (it uses the same connections as a PC does) and Linux installed…

Ooops!

I’ve just broken a mirror! When I was cleaning up my room one day quite a while ago, I came across a 2″ x 1″ mirror with a sticky back… stuck to a pair of jeans! Bizarre, up to this day I’ve still no idea how it got there. Anyway, I stuck it on my monitor for a laugh. Recently though, it’s started to loose it’s stickyness and fell off a few times. When I got back home today, I sat in the chair and pulled it forwards… breaking the mirror. Turns out it fell off while I was away and now it’s shattered quite a bit. Just for the sake of it, I’ve stuck it back together as well as I could… but i’ll have to wait ’til mid 2010 before my bad luck wears off…

Big Brother Bugger up Big time

// July 6th, 2003 // No Comments » // Geeky Stuff, General

I can only assume that the official Big Brother 4 website is down today because of the hacking competition thingie that was on. Because of this, I have resorted to going to O2’s BB WAP site to get the updates, and here’s a snippet from an entry that I thought was quite comical…

“Lookalikes”

Day 45, 19:38 Scott, Lisa, Ray, Steph and Steph were chilling in the Reward Room when the subject of look-alikes came up…

Did you notice the mistake?

How good am I!?!?!?

Today was the day of the infamous worldwide hack where, over the course of 6 hours, many hackers around the world will try to hack into as many sites as they can. The prize? 500Mb of webspace…

…which brings me to this post. I received an e-mail today from Notnet, the peeps who host my websites. Take a look at this.

Andrew,

Today was the date for the alleged website hacking contest where over 6,000 websites were to be hacked in a matter of hours, just so someone can have a little more webspace (sigh).

I thought it’d be in your best interest that you be notified about this. Just over 2 hours ago, 57 attacks were made at Notnet’s servers, 38 of which were targeted directly at where your website “andrew-irvine.co.uk” is kept. Thankfully, all of the attacks had failed and there has been no disruption to the servers.

I hope this is a good way of showing how safe websites are when they’re hosted by Notnet 😉

Indeed it does, and I sharent be moving for quite a while.
