How to connect to livebox with 3rd party wireless adapter in Windows Vista (All Versions). Click on the images to zoom in on them. |
Switch on the wireless adapter on your PC/Laptop, and the wireless network icon in your system tray should change like the animation shown to the left. |
When you click on the icon, you should see this pop up window. Click on "Connect to a network" to bring up the Connect to a network window. You can also achieve this by right-clicking on the system tray icon and selecting "Connect to a network". Another way to access the following window is to open "Network and Sharing Center" through the Control Panel, and selecting "Connect to a network" in the Tasks list on the left |
On this window, click on the name of your Livebox. If you don't know the name (aka SSID) of your Livebox, it is located on the bottom of your Livebox on a sticker. It will be in one of the following formats: Wanadoo-XXXX Once you've selected it, click on the Connect button at the bottom of the window. |
This window should appear. Type in the WEP key into the box shown, ensuring that all letters are in CAPITALS and there are no spaces whatsoever.
To make it easier, you can click on the "Display characters" tick box to show what you're typing. Once the WEP key has been typed in and confirmed to be correct, press the "1" button on your Livebox to put it into pairing mode. When you see the wireless light flashing on the top of the box, click Connect. |
This screen should appear now, showing you that it is attempting to connect to the Livebox. |
You will know that you have been successful when this screen is shown. Make sure that both the tick boxes are ticked, then click "Close".
Whenever you are on your PC using a 3rd party wireless adapter, you can check your connection status by hovering your mouse cursor over the wireless icon that now shows in your system tray. A small box will appear giving you the name of the network, it's access type and it's signal strength. |
Of course, since you didn't require the Installation CD to set this up, you won't have the "Configure the Livebox" icon on your desktop. The question here now is "How do I reconfigure the Livebox?" Open up your web browser and go to the following address: 192.168.1.1 Here is an example of what you should see (although ADSL status could read anything at the moment). Be sure to add this to your favourites menu. |
Click the "Access to the configuration pages" link and then type in the username and password FOR THE LIVEBOX, not your broadband account. If you haven't changed this already, the default values are: User name: admin |
And now you're in! |
