How to connect to livebox with 3rd party wireless adapter in Windows XP SP2.
Click on the images to zoom in on them.

Switch on the wireless adapter on your PC/Laptop, and this message should appear in the bottom-right corner of the screen...

Wireless networks detected
One or more wireless networks are in range of this computer.
To see the list and connect, click this message

Click on this "speech bubble" to bring up the Wireless Network Connection window. If this message does not show but it's icon does show, right click the icon and choose "View Available Wireless Networks".

Another way to access the following window is to open "Network Connections" through the Control Panel, right click on the icon labelled "Wireless Network Connection" and select "View Available Wireless Networks".

On this window, click on the name of your Livebox. If you don't know the name (aka SSID) of your Livebox, it is located on the bottom of your Livebox on a sticker. It will be in one of the following formats:

Wanadoo-XXXX
Livebox-XXXX
Orange-XXXX

...XXXX is a unique code assigned to your livebox.

Once you've selected it, click on the Connect button at the bottom of the window.

This window should appear. Type in the WEP key into both of these boxes, ensuring that all letters are in CAPITALS and there are no spaces whatsoever.
Once the WEP key has been typed in and confirmed, press the "1" button on your Livebox to put it into pairing mode. When you see the wireless light flashing on the top of the box, click Connect.

The Network key window should disappear now and the previous window should appear again.

It may or may not show the message "Aquiring Network Address" in the top right. Rest assured this should not matter.

You will know that you have been successful when this shows in the top right hand corner of the window, showing the happy little message "Connected".

Whenever you are on your PC using a 3rd party wireless adapter, you can check your connection status by hovering your mouse cursor over the wireless icon that now shows in your system tray.

A small box will appear giving you the name of the network, it's speed and it's signal strength.

Here is just an example of what you may see if you lose your connection to the Livebox.

Of course, since you didn't require the Installation CD to set this up, you won't have the "Configure the Livebox" icon on your desktop. The question here now is "How do I reconfigure the Livebox?"

Open up your web browser and go to the following address: 192.168.1.1

Here is an example of what you should see (although ADSL status could read anything at the moment).

Be sure to add this to your favourites menu.

Click the "Access to the configuration pages" link and then type in the username and password FOR THE LIVEBOX, not your broadband account.

If you haven't changed this already, the default values are:

User name: admin
Password: admin

And now you're in!
